The Sungai (River) Sedim cuts through the Gunung (Mount) Inas Forest Reserve at the foothill areas and that part of the forests made easily accessible with facilities for the general public is known as the Sungai Sedim Forest Recreational Park.
The river runs over rocky terrain through dense forests – creating a path of gurgling rapids which gives it both a vibrant and energetic character as well as natural scenic beauty within a pristine environment. Over a length of 15 km, there is a continuous stretch of rapids of which 24 have been identified as particularly challenging and named.
These rapids offer exciting experiences for white water rafting aficionados during appropriate seasons. International experts have adjudged this site as one of the top 5 white water destinations in the Asia Pacific region.

Crystal clear waters gurgle, rush and tumble down the slopes at the foothill area of Gunung Inas. The river is part of the eco-system that provides good natural drainage to the lower land. |

At a deeper site and where the pace of flow slows down, the water is reflected in shades of jade green colour. |

Foamy waters and extensive rock bed. The lively forest especially those of the shrub level grows right up to the edge of the river. |

There is a high proportion of rocks to sand - if they have not been already carried downstream by the powerful waters. During wetter seasons, the river swells and is good for sporting activities. However in dry seasons, parts of it can be reduced to shoals and beaches on sandy patches. |

Blending the extremes - rushing waters and calm waters. At shallow and peaceful locations, small fishes are abundant. |

The rocks are mainly of hard granite type but strong and persistent erosion over time have managed to wear down even the hardest and roughest. |

A resident of the river bank resting on the rocks - a dragonfly in magnificent fluorescent blue and contrasting shades of colours. There are hundreds of species of insects, animals and marine life thriving in and around the river. |

On flatter grounds, water collects in a natural trough and here is a good spot for diving from the heights of the rocks. |

The natural ‘swimming pool’ of almost unpolluted waters surrounded by perfectly green and oxygenated environment.
SEDIM FOREST CANOPY WALK
Hearing the duet calls of gibbons resonate from the canopy and the heavy flapping sounds of the wings of the great hornbills brushing by as you walk along the foresy canopy trail is the most overwhelming experience. And with the sounds of the water plunging down from the steep the Inas Mountains Ranges thus forming rapid streams deep in the valleys below echoing thunderous gushing sounds is all too indescribably a splendid salutation for any tourist visiting the rainforest of equatorial Malaysia.
Our journey to the Sedim Forest of the Inas Range will begin at 8.30am from Georgetown, Penang. The scenic drive along the Penang bridge and hitting onto the Butterworth Kulim Expressway will welcome any tourist to the quite rural kampong stilt houses and fruit orchards.
The Titiwangsa Range is the spine of Peninsula Malaysia and extends from South Thailand through Kedah to Johor. The Sedim Recreational Park is located deep in the Kedah’s Inas Mountains of the Titiwangsa Range.

Agile or Black Handed Gibbons
The northern Titiwangsa Mountain Ranges of Kedah is the last stretch of home range of the endangered Agile Gibbon, or the lesser ape species of Malaysia. They share their home range with the larger Siamangs , which are found along the lower canopy level of the forest.
Agile gibbon require the ripe fruits found on the canopy to give them sufficient energy to swing and live on tree tops. But the Siamangs forage mainly on the leaves and less on fruits.
Activities at Sedim Park include jungle trekking, white water rafting, outdoor camping and of course canopy walk. This trail is excellent site for watching out for wild animals and birds. The highest level of the canopy is 26,050m and any wildlife photographers will find this spot suitable to taking amazing shots of birds and forest.
